Sanai turned ONE on Saturday. Crazy, right? I’m still appalled at how quickly this year flew by. I went from refusing to let her leave my eyesight at the hospital when she was born to now planning her first birthday party. I literally don’t know where the time went, hence the party theme: One Year in a Flash!
I went back and forth about having a party versus just having a one year photo shoot. Well, after thinking not so long and not so hard, I decided “why not do both?!” I know there are some parents that go above and beyond and spend tons of money for a 1 year birthday party that their child will likely not even remember. I vowed not to be that parent. Although I opted to have the party anyway, I tried my best to keep the party small, stay within a feasible budget, and not go to crazy over the small details. Richard and I honestly pulled the party off ourselves with the help of some amazing friends! I even use the term “party” lightly because it was not this grandiose event that you may think of when you hear the word party. It was literally friends and family over to celebrate Sanai’s big day. We had food, plenty of drinks, and some pretty yummy desserts. Of course we took lots of pictures! My friends were so gracious and showered Sanai with tons of amazing gifts. Let’s just say I won’t have to go shopping for Sanai for a while 🙂 Richard and I are very happy about that lol.
For the food, I made mac & cheese, baked beans, seafood rice, grilled corn on the cob, and BBQ chicken. I didn’t take any pictures of the food…shame on me. It was delicious though! Richard and Emery (Sanai’s God dad) handled the meat on the grill and they did a pretty job if I do say so myself lol. Emery flew down just for the birthday party and Sanai took to him immediately! She was just as happy to see him as he was to see her and it made me and Richard so happy. Anyway, I knew I wanted a nice dessert table and that would be the focal point of the party. So I had cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, rice krispies, chocolate dipped oreos, popcorn, and cupcake lollipops. My friend Ashley made the strawberries and the rice krispies, which were a hit! She makes the prettiest most creative desserts for a great price. Her instagram is here. My friend Tonia (who happens to be one of my favorite chefs )baked the cupcakes for me and they were so delicious. She made sweet potato, strawberry, red velvet, and key lime cupcakes. She’s amazing and also very affordable, so hit her up- not just for dessert, but food in general, she’s bomb. Her Instagram is here. Here are a few pics of the table:
I was on Pinterest and I saw this cute idea for cupcake toppers with the baby’s face on them. I thought it was the cutest thing ever so I ordered the jpeg file from Elle Belle Creative on Etsy. My friend Shante and I cut them out and hot glued them to popsicle sticks, and BAM, we had cupcake toppers!
I also made some chocolate dipped Oreos and put popcorn in these cute little boxes from Party City! The next time I make the oreos, I’ll used Double Stuffed instead of the original ones. I think the extra cream filling would have cut some of the chocolatey flavor from the white chocolate and the Oreo cookie. They were still yummy though!
She did a smash cake as one of her poses for her birthday shoot so I wasn’t going to do one at the party. Well, I had to make a Publix run, and the cute little cakes were calling my name. So I just went ahead and grabbed one on impulse. Don’t shoot me, lol.
Sanai’s cute onesie was made by Lux Creations on instagram. Let me tell y’all how awesome she is. I literally ordered my shirt from her on Wednesday and it was at my doorstep on Friday. Friday! The design looked even better than I imagined and matched perfectly with her tutu. Please check her out for custom designs on anything! Her instagram is here.
The table was co cute and had tons of dessert. The kids couldn’t wait until we sang happy birthday so they could go in!! lol
Here are a few more pictures from the party.
Sanai and Karli, my God baby. I can’t get over how cute they look!
My best friend/ Sanai’s God mommy. She looks so beautiful here I can’t take it. And I guess Sanai & Karly both agreed to not smile lol.
Sanai’s God dad bought her a pony and she won’t stay off of it! I think it’s safe to say this was her favorite birthday gift.
Looking at all these pictures is making me want to relive the party all over again, it was that amazing! I honestly am thinking about all the things I forgot to take a picture of..like the custom picture timeline hanging above my living room, or the cute cupcake lollipops I ordered, or the cute kiddie cups shaped like cupcakes or the cute time capsule I had. I could go on and on, but I am so happy with the pictures I did manage to get. And I’m happy that everyone who came had a great time! This weekend was magical. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Now time to start planning for her 2nd party lol. Let me know what you think in the comments!
